Your Booth Is Selling Before Anyone Steps Inside (with Peter Leese of Everybooth)

Most of us started with red velvet curtains, a bin full of props and more backdrops than any client could ever choose from. Then the luxury brand activations and the really high-end weddings start coming in, and the room you're setting up in looks nothing like your booth.

This one was recorded live at Illuminate in Miami, and it's a little different because I'm not the one asking the questions. Meir Israel, one of Illuminate's co-founders, sat down with Peter Leese, the designer behind Everybooth. Before photo booths, Peter designed handbags and shoes, and he worked for a company that took design projects to brands like Louis Vuitton and Hermès. Everybooth started out as a hire business (that's rental, for anyone in North America) building its own booths, testing them at corporate events and learning what the PR and marketing teams behind major brands actually find attractive.

I wanted this one on the show because so many of you are trying to move into the luxury market with gear and branding that were built for a completely different client. Meir and Peter get into why luxury looks so much simpler than what most of us start with, whether guests feel the difference before they've taken a single photo, and the one design decision Peter refuses to compromise on even when the people building it tell him it can't be done. Then Meir puts him through a rapid-fire round, and there's a neon orange question in there I'd love to hear your answer to.

What You'll Learn:

  • What designing for the top end of the fashion world taught Peter about building booths premium brands will spend on
  • Why a minimal booth can make the experience inside it stand out more
  • The ride Peter compares stepping into a beautiful booth to, and why it matters at a high-end wedding
  • How Peter uses AI, and the part of taking a product to market it can't help with
    • Why a "me-too" product is what a lot of manufacturers would rather sell you
  • The shape problem that makes curves so hard to build, and why he won't give them up
  • What changes when a luxury hotel wants a booth that matches its wood, curtains and seats
  • Whether our industry underestimates how much aesthetics affect what clients will pay
  • Peter's answers in Meir's Rapid Fire, including the design trend he never wants to see again
